You’ll be guided through the Java 8 installation with an ncurses based installer: This will pull in a few extra packages, such as java-common, oracle-java8-set-default (which makes sure that this installed version of Java is the system default), font packages and so on. Sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java I’m not sure if the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) alone is enough, but I have installed the full JDK anyway.įirstly we add the third party JDK PPA repository and update the package manger index Since Eclipse is written in Java, we will need the latest version. These commands may take a while to complete, depending on what there is to update and how fast your internet connection is. This is easily achieved by running the following two commands: I install the CPP version, but you’re free to choose when the option presents itself! Update the OSįirst thing to do is to update the operating system. It assumes a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04 and installs Eclipse Photon. The data from Spot collector is automatically entered into my logbook. This page assumes some basic familiarity with Linux. I tune in the station precisely and make the contact. I simply click on the needed station in Spot Collector and N1MM+, Skimmer, SSDR and the radio all head to the right freq. This allows me to increase my DXCC score as well. If a ATNO comes up it blazes in RED as well. This database is screened by my wants/need list from my logbook. I keep an eye on the DXLab Spot collector as well. With each stroke more and more DX is accumulated. This allows me to work virtually all the hear-able DX in a 60 khz band segment really quickly. Once all the RED is turned light BLUE it means there are no more new ones to work and I move up or down another 10 khz. Since Skimmer generates the raw callsign data I can use the skimmer VFO controls to quickly click up and down the band 10 khz at a time, and work any RED in a given 10 khz segment. I can also use skimmer as a VFO of sorts. I then move on to the next RED station in the list. The countries/multipliers I need are listed in RED and I can click the station and the radio moves there, loads the callsign in a staging area (note the YR8D above the entry window) If the station is present and workable, I click the staged call and it is loaded into the entry window and I proceed to make the contact.
